Gabby’s Saloon subject of picketing by neighbors, citizen patrol

News Section

Neighbors of Gabby’s Saloon are preparing to picket outside the nightclub this afternoon. Some people who live near the bar say its hip-hop night crowds are loud and unruly. They say they’re tired of dealing with the noise, litter and fights.

The club’s ownership says it’s doing all it can to be a good neighbor, including hiring numerous off-duty police officers and litter clean-up crews after busy nights. (Read more about the situation in this article I wrote for the Northeaster.)

The demonstration is being organized by the Northeast Citizen Patrol. It’s asking people to meet at Gluek Park at 4:45 p.m. today. They plan to picket outside the establishment from 5 to 7 p.m. See below for the official flier.  Dan Haugen

  1. THE NEIGHBORS I TALK WITH SAY THE NECP IS A JOKE, A PERSON TRYING TO MAKE A NAME FOR HIM SELF BY STIRING UP AS MANY PEOPLE AS THEY OR HE CAN. THE NEIGHBORS BY GABBYS I TALK TO LIKE THE MANAGEMENT AND STAFF THAT WORK THERE..AND HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE PLACE. I EAT DINNER THERE A LOT AND KNOW NEIGHBORS WHO LIVE VERY CLOSE WHO HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH GABBYS. DOES THE NECP HAVE A RACE PROBLEM??

  2. You have got to be kidding me, buddy? Ever been around there on a Thursday or Saturday night? Go in there on one of these nights, specifically go upstairs for the “niteclub”. Hang out ’til close and they see the chaotic dangerous drunken mess that is the result. Interesting that they need EIGHT off-duty officers to police the place on these nights. We don’t need this crap here, the owner can go and take over the former Sharkz niteclub on River Road. Hey, didn’t they close that down for some of the same reasons?

    Get a clue!

  3. It’s obvious that Mr. Workman is not from the area and Gabby’s is his regular watering “hole.” And the so-called neighbors he’s talking about are most likely other Gabby’s patrons bellied up to the bar next to him, slurring their wisdom of neighborhood life between ordering the next round.

Otherwise he would know that 53 “real” neighbors came out and walked the picket line that day. And dozens upon dozens of other residents waved and beeped their horns in support as they drove by. This amount of participation and support gives evidence to a “real” problem.

And if Mr. Workman thinks that NECP people are out to make a name for themselves, I have news for him, they already do. It came to them from taking action, not the 12oz arm curls you’re probably use to, but actually getting out of the bar and doing something to help fight Northeast’s crime and livability problems.

By the way, if you hit the Caps Lock key on your keyboard a second time, it will allow you to also use lower case letters when you type.
