One bridge closed for inspection, another up for discussion

Neighborhoods Section

The Lowry Avenue Bridge closed about an hour ago so that state bridge inspectors can begin taking a closer look at the century-old structure. The bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Friday for the MnDOT inspection, part of a statewide bridge inspection mandate.

Meanwhile, the Columbia Park and Marshall Terrace neighborhoods hold a joint meeting tonight with city officials to discuss replacing the St. Anthony Parkway Bridge. The bridge carries traffic over the BNSF Northtown Rail Yard and was scheduled to be rehabilitated in 2006. As city workers prepared for the project, however, they concluded it must replaced instead. Construction is scheduled to start in 2011. The city’s Public Works staff is seeking community input on the bridge at tonight’s meeting. It starts at 7 p.m. at RiverVillage, 2919 Randolph St. NE.  Dan Haugen
