Dining out for a cause

Several restaurants in Northeast are participating in an annual fundraiser Thursday to benefit agencies supporting people with AIDS or HIV.
Dining Out For Life raises more than $2 million a year in North America, with a portion of the day’s proceeds at more than 2,500 restaurants nationwide will be donated to licensed agencies in their cities.
This will be the 13th annual Dining Out For Life in the Twin Cities. More than $100,000 was raised locally in 2006 to benefit services for offered by The Aliveness Project. With the exception of an annual licensing fee of $600, all money stays in the city where it was donated.
Minneapolis and St. Paul have also declared April 26, 2007, is Dining Out For Life Day in both cities.
In 1991 Dining Out For Life was created by an ActionAIDS volunteer in Philadelphia. In 1993, ActionAIDS made it an international event offering licenses to AIDS Service Organizations around the country. Since Dining Out for Life international’s founding the event has grown to at least 33 cities.
This year, Dining Out for Life ambassadors will hand out 10-percent-off coupons at all eight Twin Cities Borders stores. The coupons are redeemable April 28 or 29 and an additional 10 percent of your purchase will be donated to The Aliveness Project.
There are many local establishments to support by eating out for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. A full listing of the participating restaurants in Minnesota can be found here.
