Last call for… tots?

Just when it seemed the 331 Club had finally sorted out all its issues with city regulators, singer Quillan Roe shared news of another tough break for the venue during tonight’s Roe Family Singers show. A city inspector has deemed the bar’s kitchen not appropriate for a fryer, he said. That means after tonight no more tater tots, no more hush puppies and no more sweet potato fries. Roe said the club will continue to serve its sandwiches, cut in triangles as always, but “they’ll probably be covered in tears.”
The City Council’s regulatory services committee voted last week to approve an upgraded liquor license for the venue, which will allow it to feature full amplified music. The burlesque shows it used to host don’t appear to be included in the deal. Among the conditions the club agreed to was a ban on “nude or semi-nude dancing,” “mud wrestling” and “wet T-shirt contests.” It also agreed not to disturb neighbors and to make sure sidewalk cafe patrons can not be heard from more than 200 feet away.
The venue has a strong week of live music this week, with highlights including Molly Maher & her Disbelievers (Wednesday, 7 p.m.) and a bill Friday night featuring Charlie Parr, Rich Mattson and Baby Grant Johnson. Dan Haugen
