St. Anthony East continues NRP planning
The St. Anthony East Neighborhood Association will continue planning Tuesday for its next phase of Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) spending.
NRP is allocating $362,535 to St. Anthony East in the program’s second round of funding. The neighborhood is required to prepare a detailed plan of how it will use the money before it can qualify to receive the funds.
The neighborhood board still needs to boil down and refine ideas it collected March 24 at a neighborhood-wide NRP planning meeting, said Peter Radford, president of the St. Anthony East Neighborhood Association. It’ll take up that task at Tuesday’s meeting.
Seventy percent, or about $250,000, needs to be spent on housing-related issues, according to NRP rules. That could include programs like low-interest home improvement loans for neighborhood residents.
The State Legislature and City Council created NRP in 1990 as a way to provide resources for neighborhood-level community improvement projects in Minneapolis. It’s unknown whether officials will continue funding for the program after 2009.
Also on Tuesday’s agenda will be a discussion about when and where future neighborhood meeting should be held. They currently take place the second Tuesday of each month at Logan Park, just north of the neighborhood’s boundary. The board is consider a move to Webster Open School, and possibly another night to avoid annual second Tuesday conflicts for primary and general elections. Dan Haugen
