Minneapolis Public Schools officials fielded frustrated questions from students, parents and community members Monday evening at an Edison High School meeting.

A flier from Public Education Northeast, which was posted on the district’s website, invited people to a conversation about Edison’s future in the wake of the recent suspension of Principal Larry Lucio. Lucio is on administrative leave and under investigation, Allen Giles, the district’s attorney, confirmed.

But Giles said he attended the meeting in order to discourage any conversation about the principal because of concerns for the ongoing investigation and the privacy of those involved. The Star Tribune reported on the investigation in January after a public flap over a scholarship program at the school.

"There is an investigation underway, but that’s all I can say," Giles said. "At this point, I can’t answer any of those questions… It’s as uncomfortable for me to say that as it is for you to hear it."

Associate Superintendent Craig Vana then worked to steer the conversation toward longer-term concerns facing the school and district like declining enrollment and grim budget forecast. Star Tribune reporter Steve Brandt has more on the meeting in today’s paper. Dan Haugen
