Windom Park to discuss home improvement loans
A home improvement loan program in the Windom Park neighborhood has helped pay for more than 500 projects worth over $3.5 million. Tonight, the neighborhood association will ask residents about reauthorizing the program, said Doron Clark, co-president of Windom Park Citizens in Action.
Clark said the program has played a role in improving the housing stock in Windom Park. He said the neighborhood has the second-highest home sale prices in Northeast, and the loan program will continue to help. Changes proposed for the program include lowering the minimum loan amount and focusing some of the loans on projects that will reduce energy consumption.
The neighborhood will also be asked about contributing funding for fixing up the historic Marino’s building at 2205 Central Ave. Some neighbors would like to offer seed money to be matched by the building’s owner to create a "signature building" at the entry way to the Northeast arts district at 22nd Avenue, Clark said. The Windom Park neighborhood meeting is 7 p.m. tonight at Windom Park Recreation Center (Pilsbury School park addition), 2251 Hayes St. NE. Dan Haugen
