SNO Ball to raise money for park, memorial

Snoball
The Sheridan neighborhood is throwing a big benefit bash Saturday to raise money for a park and veteran’s memorial. Sheridan is the only neighborhood in Minneapolis that doesn’t have a park within its boundaries. The neighborhood organization is partnering with a group of World War II veterans from Northeast to dedicate a park and memorial on an undeveloped strip of land west of the Grain Belt brewery on 13th Avenue and the Mississippi River.

The memorial will consist of a circle of trees with a reflecting pool in the middle and peace gardens surrounding it. Markers will depict each war in which US soldiers have fought. The plans also call for a playground, picnic area, walking and bike paths, and an overlook at the river.

The group is about halfway toward its fund-raising goal, and hope SNO Ball 2007 will give the effort a boost this weekend. The event is Saturday, 7 p.m. to midnight at the Ritz Theater, 345 13th Ave. NE. The entertainment includes performances by Ballet of the Dolls, Felonious Bosch, Le Cirque Rouge Cabaret & Burlesque and DJ Danny Sigelman. There’ll also be a photo booth and silent auction. Tickets are $20 in advance at Two 12 Pottery, 212 13th Ave. NE, or $30 at the door. Dan Haugen

  1. This is going to be a great event.
I was involved with the SNO ball last year, it was a blast and a huge success.

Get out and support your Neighborhood! There are plenty of tickets still available.
