Bottineau talks about summer movie night

At 40 degrees, it was warm and sunny enough today (but not for long) to start daydreaming about summer. The Bottineau Neighborhood Association was looking that far ahead at last night’s neighborhood meeting, too. The group talked about plans to revive a weekly summer movies in the park night, possibly in the newly opened Edgewater Park (pictured). The neighborhood group hosted regular movie nights in Bottineau Park for a few summers, but last year they didn’t materialize.
"The idea is to bring parents and kids out to the park to get to know each other," vice-president Dave Salmela said. "We want to bring it back into our neighborhood somewhere." Having it in Edgewater Park might be a way to plant the seed for more activity there, too, he said. It could also deter crime by keeping neighbors out at times the area might otherwise be less populated. Anyone interested in volunteering to help get the movie night going again can call the Bottineau Neighborhood Association at 782-2145.
The 2.5 acre park on the corner of Lowry and Marshall is former home of the famous Edgewater Inn. The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board acquired the land in 1993 and has been working with the neighborhood for a decade to develop the area into a park. After years of planning, tree planting and construction, the neighborhood association is planning a grand opening ceremony on Earth Day, April 21, 2007. Dan Haugen
