Mini-Golf in Northeast?

Minigolf_1 There’s chatter on the Minneapolis Issues Forum about a proposal in the park board’s 2007 budget draft to build a mini-golf course in Northeast. The course would go next to Lupient Water Park and share an entrance and security with that facility. The park board estimates the mini-golf course would bring in about $100,000 in annual revenue. A public hearing on the budget is set for Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board headquarters.

Liz  Wielinski, a Columbia Park resident and member of Minneapolis Parks Watch, has already registered her cynicism about the plan: "Miniature Golf, why Northeast? Why not in Linden Hills or closer to Edina? Shouldn’t the decision be based on where your target market is and not on where you already have a front gate to take the money?" she wrote on the forum. What do you think? Would you putt a round of mini-golf, maybe on a Quarry-themed course? Or is mini-golf a tacky sport best left to those suburban types? Dan Haugen

One Response to “Mini-Golf in Northeast?”

  1. Tacky or not, it’s an activity whose time has essentially passed. Seems foolish to throw money at a 1960s amenity in the 21st century.

If they need revenue enhancement, maybe MPRB should just open a Dave & Busters franchise…?
